Wow! First Glance @ the Floor Plan

First Draft for blog with logo

Can you believe we got our floor plan back from KRN Residential Design already? I thought the design process would take a lot longer but it turns out Kelly and his team were excited to get started on our design and finished the first draft in 3 business days. We are very impressed with their professionalism, expediency and initial design.

I can immediately see myself entering the front door and being greeted with a spacious foyer. I can already see a bench with a colourful textile and console with a mirror above.  The kitchen had a walk-in pantry, huge island and a generous amount of countertop. What I didn’t expect was the prep sink! I love the living room with a fireplace and built-in shelving on either side. There is also a mud room with lockers (ie. hockey equipment room) and a powder room. The main floor is love at first sight.  They even included a design element I found on Pinterest with shelving to act as a room divider between the kitchen and dining area and simultaneously adding some character to the home.

The second floor, on the other hand, is giving me a bit more trouble imagining.

second floor close up blogI love approximately half of the upstairs layout. The bedrooms are a great size, the bonus room is a bonus and there is a walk-thru master closet.  Do you see all the shelving and clothing racks we could have in that space? It’s awesome.

The parts I don’t love about the second floor include the laundry room, Jack & Jill bathroom and the master ensuite. The laundry room is an easy fix – stackable washer/dryer, allowing room for some cupboards and countertop for storage. The bathrooms have me scratching my head.

From here, I will start revising the floor plan on my own. I plan on making a list of areas I love and a list of areas that need improvement. The pros will obviously be greater as Kelly and his team did an amazing job at listening and building the floor plan around our ideas. We plan on meeting with the design team early next week to discuss our changes.  Until then, I’m just going to keep dreaming about that beautiful kitchen.

Have you designed a floor plan before? What’s a must-have element of your dream house? Prep sinks – yay or nay?

The bonus room is 11’0″ x 12’7″. You’re right, it does look small. Keep reading to see if it changed 😉

What about a walk through pantry?

    How big are the bedrooms?

The master bedroom is 14’9″ x 10’7″ and the kids’ bedrooms are both 11’0″ x 10’1″. Do you think these are good sizes?

    I like the open concept!
