Front Door Details

The front of the house is slowly taking shape and it’s going to be lovely!

featured 3d rendering

When we had this rendering created by KRN Residential Design, they used the exact door that we have on order from Sunview Windows & Doors: same glass, same colour, same dimensions.

When we met with the great people from Sunview Windows & Doors in Regina, their expertise and knowledge about the products they sell really impressed us. One of the unique products sold by Sunview are Portatec doors; they are the only distributors in Saskatchewan. Portatec is a company based out of Quebec, Canada, and they specialize in superior quality entry door systems. They are market leaders in the industry and stand behind a product that, year after year, exceeds industry standards. Their doors, whether they have a wood finish on steel doors or fiberglass doors, are fully customizable and can be built to the customer’s request. These doors are truly the best in durability, security and beauty.

When we visited the Sunview showroom, the black door on display truly caught my eye. I knew we wanted the door to be elegant and different, and black seemed to be the way to go. Black will really make the stonework and cedar in the front porch pop and creates some  sophistication in the entry. Add in the black transom window over top, and we had our decision made. Bonus: Portatec has a 20 year warranty on the steel door itself, and 10 years on the paint colour! If you paint your own door black, you might not be happy with the results in a few years due to sun damage and peeling. However, Portatec has come up with an exclusive painting system that offers superior resistance compared to the standard urethane acrylic used in the door market. Their polyester painting system lends an elastic property to the paint resulting in better endurance, allowing them to offer such a great warranty.

We went with a single door with two sidelights. One sidelight actually opens, creating a wider entry way to move furniture in and out of the house. The other sidelight will be screened for venting. I’m looking forward to installation day so I can show you the actual door and the features!
