Yahoo! We signed up Bouss Construction today to do the framing for the House Trade Built.  We’re thrilled to have Corey as part of the network. We met with him earlier this month over coffee, and were crossing our fingers that he would say yes and commit to our job.

A Meeting w/Humphrey’s

     June 16, 2014 0 Comments

We had the opportunity to meet and discuss our project with the owner of Humphrey Window & Door Store recently. We met at their showroom to view some of the products available, talk about the different types of glass and go over the quote. We had sent our plans to them a few weeks ago and we’re happy with the pricing. We went over each room, ensuring we had the right measurements and openings. We’ve decided to go with All Weather Windows, which is Canada’s largest privately owned window and door manufacturer.

Humphrey Window & Door Store will be trading us the windows, back door, garage-to-outside door and the garage-to-inside door, supply only. The framers that we hire will be installing the products.  Humphrey Window & Door Store is busy as they are already booking into late fall, so by doing a supply-only job, they were able to still get new business and participate in the House Trade Built. We’re happy to have them on board in the Tradebank Regina network and look forward to years of working together.

Humphrey Window and Door Store also sells a wide range of products for your home. They offer windows, doors, siding, soffit & fascia, as well as custom sunrooms. If you’re building or renovating a home, make sure you get a quote from this locally owned company. Their prices were very competitive and their products are great.

Have you installed new windows lately? Did you do a large renovation? If you’d like to show off your renovation, contact me and I might feature your renovation on our blog.

Automated Everything

One of the companies I met at the Spring Home Show was Automated AV.

Automated AV 1

Andrew was friendly, approachable and knowledgeable. He showed me some of the great products at his booth, like invisible speakers, and sounded genuinely interested when I told him about the House Trade Built project. We’re interested in home automation because it simplifies everything. I’d much rather use one simple, yet incredibly powerful, app than have to flip through ten.

Dan and I met with Andrew yesterday to get more information about his company and a quote for our project. He showed us all of the options he had available and made recommendations based on our budget and needs. We decided that we wanted to put in good quality speakers throughout the house, automated lighting, security and heating.  It will be awesome to be able to control everything with a remote or phone. The idea of never being locked out or leaving a light on is great. What I love is that there won’t be cable boxes and cords everywhere. All of the entertainment units will be clean and uncluttered. Man, whatever happens to this house, the owners are going to be lucky.

There are a few different automation companies in Regina so we are going to get quotes from them as well. It’s always a smart decision to compare quotes, especially on large investments, so that you can make an educated decision that you feel comfortable with, knowing you did your research.  Once we have multiple quotes, we will compare systems (because everyone sells a different brand) and determine which one is best for us. We will base our decision on the system, the quote and the professional selling the product. After all, when you use automation in your house, you want to ensure that company will be around for the long haul in case something needs to be updated or changed.

Do you see value in having home automation? Is the ability to control your entire house from one app on your phone neat, or what?!

Exceeding your Excavations

     April 5, 2014 0 Comments

Great news! We met with Phil Bergen to discuss the House Trade Built project and he jumped on board. His company is Bergen ExcavatingExceeding your Excavations – and we’re excited to work with him. We’ve heard nothing but the best when we asked around for recommendations and referrals.

Phil is happy to be a part of the Tradebank Regina network. He’s going to work our excavation into his schedule as time allows so that it does interfere with a paying job. We’re a few months away from digging anyway, so to schedule for late July is great. Trading requires flexibility, and we are well aware that there might be delays. As long as we get ourselves booked in, we’re happy. Phil’s happy. Everyone is happy 🙂

I’ll have more information for you about Phil and his company once we get started. We hope to be digging by late July. I can’t wait until digging day. Our son Leo, almost 2, is starting to like trucks so I’m sure seeing the big excavator and dump truck will be exciting for him too! Afterall, this is his favourite book:
